never would i have imagined that i would celebrate my 40th birthday in egypt... one of my friends asked me where was the most exotic place i had celebrated my birthday, and i said here!! ...on friday nov 9 i rented a bus for 22 friends to come and celebrate my 4 0 with me...!!! we started the night watching the light and sound show at the pyramids... it was so much fun.. the pyramids looked great with the laser and stuf, and the sound was hilariously funny, way over the top, but interesting as they tell the story of egypt... the best line of the night was, imagine a deep voice in a dramatic tone: "the world fears time, but time fears the pyramids..." hahahaha... then we went to dinner by the nile, very nice place and great food... we ended the night at the four seasons pool on the terrace... one of the fanciest hotels in cairo.. there were friends from france, canada, the US, wales, egypt, denmark, china, germany, cyprus... it is surreal for me to think i come from a barrio in guatemala city and i have the opportunity to live the life i live... every day i give thanks to God for my family, my friends and my career as international teacher... thanks to all of you who sang happy birthday to me, for the first time i had sparkles with my cake! and thanks to everyone who remembered me in the distance... i love you all! teaching at narmer american college is challenging and rewarding... i have 40 fifth graders, two groups of 20... i teach them math and science... i am proud of the progress my students are making... they are paying more attention in class and actually doing homework... i just had parent conferences and they went really well... the greatest thing about school is that i have a cool group of friends with whom i hang out on the weekends... we party, we travel, we share stories... last weekend we went to kerdasa camel market. one hour from cairo... one of those places out of a movie... hundreds of camels for sale... men wearing traditional robes making deals on the streets, putting camels on trucks and pick ups... they bring them from sudan... 1,200 dollars for a camel, pretty expensive, huh?... the sights, the sounds, the people, made that little outing a really cool experience... this weekend i am going with three friends to dahab, a beach on the read sea, and mount sinai, where moses received the ten commandments... in december two friends and i are backpacking in spain for 3 weeks... i got a flatmate from germany two weeks ago, a nice easy going kinda guy like me... now i can save some money to travel a little more... :-)
nunca hubiera imaginado que celebraria mi cumpleanios 40 en egipto... una amiga me pregunto que cual era el lugar mas exotico en que habia celebrado mi cumpleanios, y yo le dije aqui!!... el viernes 9 de noviembre alquile un bus para que 22 amigos y amigas vinieran a celebrar mis 4 0...!!! iniciamos la velada viendo el show de luces y sonido en las piramides... estuvo muy divertido... las piramides se veian super con el laser y demas, y el sonido estuvo comiquisimo, super exagerado, pero interesante como cuentan la historia de egipto... la mejor frase de la noche fue, imaginate una voz profunda en un todo dramatico: "el mundo le teme al tiempo, pero el tiempo le teme a las piramides..." hahahahahah... luego fuimos a cenar al lado del nilo, muy lindo lugar y buena comida... terminamos la noche en la piscina en la terraza del four seasons... uno de los hoteles mas lujosos en cairo... habian amigos y amigas de francia, canada, estados unidos, gales, dinamarca, china, alemania, chipre... es surreal para mi pensar que vengo de un barrio de la ciudad de guatemala y que tengo la oportunidad de vivir la vida que vivo... cada dia dos gracias a Dios por mi familia, mis amigos, y mi carrera de educador internacional... gracias a todos los que me cantaron feliz cumpleanios, por primera vez tuve estrellitas con mi pastel!! y gracias a todos los que me recordaron en la distacia... los quiero mucho a todos!! dar clases en el colegio narmer es un reto y una oportunidad con sus recompensas... tengo 40 alumnos de quinto grado, dos grupos de 20... les doy clases de mate y ciencias... estoy orgulloso del progreso que estan logrando... estan poniendo atencion en clase y hasta estan haciendo su tarea... recien tuve conferencias de padres y todo salio muy bien... lo mejor del colegio es el grupo bien cool de amigos y amigas con quienes pasamos el rato los fines de semana... salimos, viajamos, compartimos historias... el fin de semana pasado fuimos al mecado de camellos en kerdasa, a una hora de cairo... uno de eso lugares salidos de una pelicula... cientos de camellos... hombres en vestidos tradicionales haciendo tratos en las calles, subiendo camellos en camiones y pick ups... ellos traen los camellos de sudan... 1,200 dolares por camello, algo caritos, no?... las escenas, los sonidos, la gente, hicieron de ese pequenio paseo una experiencia bien interesante... este fin de semana vamos con tres amigos a dahab, una playa en el mar rojo, y al monte sinai, donde moises recibio los diez mandamientos... en diciembre dos amigos y yo vamos de mochileros por espania por 3 semanas... hace dos semanas encontre un companiero de departamento, un chico buena honda y tranquilo como yo... ahora puedo ahorrar un poquito para viajar mas... :-)
