Roatan, Honduras

Image
Roatán , located between the islands of  Útila  and  Guanaja , is the largest of  Honduras '  Bay Islands . The island was formerly known as  Ruatan  and  Rattan . It is approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) long, and less than 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) across at its widest point. DIVING The Roatan Marine Park (RMP) is a grass roots, community-based, non-profit organization located on Roatan. Our organization was formed in January 2005 when a group of concerned dive operators and local businesses united in an effort to protect Roatan’s fragile coral reefs. Initially, it was our goal to run a patrol program within the Sandy Bay-West End Marine Reserve (SBWEMR), to prevent over exploitation through unsustainable fishing practices. Over time, we expanded the scope of our environmental efforts through the addition of other programs encompassing the entire island. The RMP runs a broad range of activities to protect Roatan’s natural reso...

I´m moving to Europe! Me voy a Europa!

I just wanted to share some great news. I have been a principal of Christian American School of Guatemala for 4 months now. It has been a great blessing but it has been challenging at times. About 10 years ago I had the goal/dream to teach in every continent, and now I am closer to realizing that dream: In August I will be moving to Bucharest! Y A Y! I will be teaching at http://www.aisb.ro/ I like what Wikipedia says in the introduction for this city: In Romanian the word stem "bucur" means 'glad', 'joy', in Albanian, 'bukur' signifies 'beautiful' and 'esht' signifies 'is', literally translated as 'it is beautiful'. I am so thankful to God for giving me this time in my country Guatemala and for this opportunity to teach in Europe. Most of all I praise Him for His constant love in my life. I continue attending http://frater.org/ where I have made great friends whom I will miss. I am looking forward to finding a chu...

Step of Faith... Un Paso de Fe...

Image
A Step of Faith In September of 2008 I began a new phase in my life. Since then I have been refocusing my perspective in life and renewing my faith in God. From the moment I decided to recommit my life to God I knew He would take care of me. All I needed to do was to trust Him completely. He has been merciful (as He always is) and I have been blessed with all kinds of blessings since then. Each day I can see His love in my life. At times it has not been easy, but I have experienced a peace and happiness that goes beyond any circumstance around me. After teaching 2 years in Egypt I am back in Guatemala staying with my brother, sister, nieces and nephews. My mom is planning to come visit from California in December! Professionally there are exciting possibilities ahead for me. Doors are opening for me to teach in Guatemala, US, Germany and South Africa in the near future. No matter where I go (or if I stay) I will continue seeking His will for my life. Living life with Jesus is the...

Closing Cairo chapter. Cerrando capitulo Cairo.

Image
This is my last blog from Cairo!! Crazy how time flies huh!! It feels as if it was yesterday when I was walking the streets of Maadi with a map!! :o) These past two years have been an amazing adventure. Besides exploring Egypt I had the opportunity to travel in Spain, Jordan, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Czeck Republic, Poland, and Israel. Here in Cairo and in my travels I was so blessed meeting wonderful people. I am thankful for their friendship. Socrates said that "an unexamined life is not worth living." This last semester I did a lot of soul-searching and I as the prodigal son I decided to go back home. I began attending Maadi Community church. I missed only one Sunday because I was in Luxor! This has been the biggest blessing of all while I've been in Egypt. Being back in my Father's House! On June 24 I go back to Guatemala. My life is being renewed by the love and tenderness of my Abba Father. The Cai...

Luxor, Hurghada and Egyptian Museum.

Image
Luxor is 14 hours south of Cairo by train. A mid-size city by the Nile where you can find temples, tombs, monuments, built 3 thousand years ago. The famous Valley of the Kings is there. I rented a bike and just strolled around ruins around the city for 4 days. Hurghada is 5 hours east of Luxor on the red sea by minibus. The town itself really isn't much, but the reef is spectacular. The diversity of the fish and the colors of the reef were stunning. I want an underwater camera! I did 2 incredible dives for 28 US dollars. This included equipment, hotel pick up, boat and lunch!  The Egyptian museum is another amazing place in Cairo. The amount of antiquities is astounding. The Tutankhamen funerary chamber is out of this world. There is so much to see that you literally need a few days in the museum. We want your soul !!

Image
" We Want Your Soul " is a  2003   breakbeat  song by British DJ and  producer   Adam Freeland ; the song made the  Top 40  charts in several countries, and resulted in an award-winning  music video   [1] . It is the first song to which Freeland wrote the  lyrics   [2] , he describes it as being "about the destructive side of consumer culture", and about how commercialism is inescapable.  Rather than being sung, the song's verses are spoken by a  speech synthesizer ; the song also features a sample of  Bill Hicks .  The  Target Corporation  sought to license  We Want Your Soul  for use in an advertising campaign  [3] , which Freeland refused. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful des...

Supernatural. Sobrenatural.

Image
Supernatural On Easter Sunday millions of people around the world celebrate the resurrection of a man called Jesus. According to the Bible this man rose from the dead and walked amongst the living for 40 days.  What ?! Is that possible ?! Resurrection ?!  Many people say it is crazy or ridiculous to believe that a man could rise from the dead. They also would probably consider insane that a man would claim that He was God. Well, that's just what Jesus claimed during his ministry and that's why he was crucified, for blasphemy. For claiming He was God. Either Jesus was a lunatic and a liar, or He is who He said he was. What do you think ?! More on life, faith, and God in this free book by CS Lewis http://www.scribd.com/doc/4978081/Lewis-C-S-Mere-Christianity Sobrenatural E Domingo de Resurrección millones de personas alrededor del mundo celebran la resurrección de un hombre llamado Jesus quien se levanto de los muertos. >May God bless and keep you always May your wishes all come true May you always do for others And let others do for you May you build a ladder to the stars And climb on every rung May you stay forever young Forever young, forever young May you stay forever young. May your hands always be busy May your feet always be swift May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift May your heart always be joyful And may your song always be sung May you stay forever young Forever young, forever young May you stay forever young.

Shalom Jerusalem. Paz a Jerusalen.

Image
The history of humanity is the story of our errors and accomplishments. Jerusalem, which in Hebrew means "City of Peace", is the perfect example of this history. For centuries war and conflict have been part of daily life in Jerusalem. It is in the midst of destruction and conflict that Jews, Christians and Muslims, all express their faith through prayers and pilgrimages to this city.  Religion and politics are convictions rooted in our existential questions. Is there a God? If there is, how can we know Him? Are we just developed animals, or are we more than that? Is there a life after this? How can a loving God allow all the suffering in the world? Why do "believers" kill in his name? Not easy questions to answer. Perhaps there are no answers, or maybe the answers can be found only in the humility and understanding that we will never completely understand  f a i t h.    Possible answers to these questions in "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Giving Thanks. Dando Gracias.

I came back to Cairo 3 months ago to finish my second year of my contract. I am enjoying the quiet happiness of daily life. The routine of school with all its drama and comedy. The shared moments with friends. Teaching Spanish to 21 students from grades 1 to 5 has been a blast. I love how my kids seem to be enjoying the daily lessons. The routine of weekends going out and exploring new places with friends or spending time with me. Thanksgiving is a holiday to give thanks. I am extremely thankful for each day and each blessing in my life. ESPAN YOL Regrese a Cairo hace 3 meses para terminar mi segundo anio en mi contrato. Exploring Europe. Exploring Life.

Image
In the summer of 2008 the road called my name again. I traveled 9 weeks in 9 countries! Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Czeck Republic, Slovakia and Poland. I am so thankful for the friends I made, for the places I visited, and also for the chance I had to spend time with me as I explored this amazing continent. I am thankful for the delicious moments and for the moments when I felt lost and confused, because those moments are also part of this adventure we call l i f e. I visited spectacular cities, quaint small towns, and beautiful landscapes. It was a journey which renewed my soul and saturated my senses. I had the priviledge to explore the roots of western civilization. From philosophy to architecture, sports to visual arts, literature to music, religion to politics. From the mythology of ancient Greece in Samothraki island to the basics of democracy in Athens to the atrocities of Nazism in Auswitchz. I experienced the ho...

Spain to Egypt. Espanya a Egipto.

Image
In January 2007, I explored Bilbao, my last stop in Spain. The Guggenheim modern art museum was the perfect ending to an amazing three weeks in Spain. The structure, reminiscent of a boat, covered with titanium sheets as if a giant metallic fish with scales, was simply stunning. Frank Gehrig, the architect, is a definitely a genius. The only two straight lines in the building are the elevator and the floor. I tried to find another one and i didn't. Walking into the atrium one feels as if stepping into a galactic church. Before I went in, I walked around the building for a couple of hours just enjoying the sun, the park, the river boardwalk and taking pictures from different angles. Once inside, an incredible exhibit of modern art was awaiting. Installations, paintings, video, sculptures and such. Very conceptual post-modern stuff that in some cases did not make much sense to me, but I was most definitely impressed in the simplicity/creativity of most pieces. For instance: an ...
